케임브릿지 사전은 'gravy train'을 "a way of making money quickly, easily, and often dishonestly(돈을 빨리, 쉽고, 그리고 대개는 부정직하게 버는 방법)"라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'gravy train'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If an organization or person earns a lot of money without doing much work, you can say that they are on the gravy train(어떤 조직이나 사람이 일을 많이 하지 않고 돈을 많이 번다면, 그들이 on the gravy train 하다고 말할 수 있다)." 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

"We are overworked and underpaid while they are always on the gravy train(그들은 쉽게 돈을 버는데 우리는 과로하고 제대로 보수도 못 받는다)." 

'the gravy train'을 "an organization, activity, or business from which many people can make money or profit without much effort(많이 노력하지 않고도 돈이나 수익을 낼 수 있는 조직, 활동, 또는 사업)"라고 풀이했다.

"Privatization is not always the gravy train that governments promise(민영화는 언제나 정부가 약속하는 수월한 돈벌이가 아니다)."
