케임브릿지 사전은 'launch pad'를 "something that provides you with the opportunity to follow a particular plan of action(특정한 행동 계획을 따를 기회를 제공해 주는 것)"이라고 정의했다.

"Forty-five Japanese companies chose Wales as their European launch pad(일본 기업 45곳이 웨일스를 유럽 지역의 도약대로 선택했다)."

"Some people see her memoirs as a launch pad for a presidential bid(어떤 이들은 그녀의 회고록을 대통령 선거에 나갈 수 있는 도약대로 본다)."
