케임브릿지 사전은 'diatribe'를 "an angry speech or piece of writing that severely criticizes something or someone(어떤 사물 또는 사람을 통렬하게 비판하는, 성난 발언 또는 글)"이라고 정의했다.

"He launched into a long diatribe against the lack of action in Congress(그는 일하지 않는 의회에 대한 기나긴 비판을 시작했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'diatribe'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A diatribe is an angry speech or article which is extremely critical of someone's ideas or activities(diatribe는 어떤 사람의 아이디어나 행동에 지극히 비판적인, 성난 발언 또는 글이다)."

"The book is a diatribe against the academic left(그 책은 떠난 학자들에 대한 통렬한 비판을 담았다)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'diatribe'를 "a long and angry speech or piece of writing attacking and criticizing somebody/something(어떤 사람 또는 사물을 공격하고 비판하는, 길고 성난 발언 또는 글)"이라고 풀이했다.

"He launched a bitter diatribe against the younger generation(그는 젊은 세대에 관한, 격렬한 비판을 시작했다)."
