케임브릿지 사전은 'double down'을 "to continue to do something in an even more determined way than before(이전보다 더욱더 단호하게 어떤 일을 계속하다)"라고 정의했다.

"Expect to see Fox double down on its marketing efforts to give the movie a big boost(폭스가 그 영화에 큰 힘을 실어주기 ㅇ위해 마케팅 노력을 밀어붙이는 모습을 보기를 기대하시라)."

"Instead of learning from his mistakes, he's doubling down(그의 실수로부터 배우는 대신 그는 하던 것을 밀어붙였다)."

콜린스 사전은 'double down'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you double down, you commit more strongly to a position(double down 한다면, 자신의 위치에 더욱 강하게 전념하는 것이다)."
