케임브릿지 사전은 'crotchety'를 "often in a bad mood and easily annoyed(대개 기분이 안 좋고 쉽게 짜증 내는)"라고 정의했다.

"By the time the meal began, the youngest children were getting tired and crotchety(식사가 시작했을 때엔, 가장 어린 아이들은 피곤했고 짜증을 냈다)."

콜린스 사전은 'crotchety'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A crotchety person is bad-tempered and easily irritated(crotchety한 사람은 성마르고 쉽게 화를 내는 사람이다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.
