케임브릿지 사전은 'wisp'를 "a small, thin line of cloud/smoke/steam(구름/연기/증기의 작고 가느다란 선)"이라고 정의했다.

"A blue wisp of cigarette smoke curled in the air(담배 연기의 푸른 줄기가 허공에 말려 올라갔다)."

콜린스 사전은 'wisp'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A wisp of something such as smoke or cloud is an amount of it in a long thin shape(연기나 구름 같은 것의 wisp는 그것이 길고 가는 모양의 양(量)이다)."

"A thin wisp of smoke straggled up through the trees(가느다른 연기 줄기가 나무들 사이로 올라갔다)."

"...an occasional wisp of white cloud(...때때로 보이는 하얀 구름 줄기)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'wisp'를 "a long, thin line of smoke or cloud(연기 또는 구름의 길고 가느다란 선)"라고 풀이했다.
