케임브릿지 사전은 'be a far cry from something'을 "to be completely different from something(어떤 것과 완전히 다르다)"이라고 정의했다.

"This flat is a far cry from the house they had before(이 아파트는 그들이 이전에 살았던 집와 완전히 다르다)."

콜린스 사전은 'a far cry'를 "something very different(아주 다른 것)"라고 설명했다.

메리암웹스터 사전은 'far cry'를 "something notably different(현저히 다른 것)"라고 풀이했다.
