케임브릿지 사전은 'time-honored'를 이렇게 정의했다. "A time-honored tradition, practice, or method is respected because it has been done or used in the same way for many years(time-hored한 전통, 관행, 또는 방법은 그것이 수년간 같은 방식으로 행해졌거나 이용되었기 때문에 존중받는 것이다)."

"The developers dealt with the problem in the time-honored fashion, burying the industrial waste in landfill sites(개발자들은 그 문제를, 산업 폐기물을 매립지에 묻는 유서 깊은 방법으로 그 문제를 해결했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'time-honored'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A time-honored tradition or way of doing something is one that has been used and respected for a very long time(time-honored한 전통 도는 방식은 아주 오랫동안 이용되고 존중받아 온 것이다)."
