케임브릿지 사전은 'run the gauntlet'을 "to have to deal with a lot of people who are criticizing or attacking you(당신을 비판하거나 공격하는 많은 사람들을 대해야 하다)"라고 정의했다.

"Every day they had to run the gauntlet of hostile journalists on their way to school(매일 그들은 학교로 가는 길에 적대적인 저널리스트들의 집중 포화를 받아야만 했다)."
