[영어 공부] in the frame(고려 대상인)

 

난 라면을 싫어하는 건 아니지만 딱히 좋아하지도 않아서, 아무리 배고플 때라도 '뭘 먹을까'의 대상으로 라면을 고려하는 경우는 없다.

이렇게 어떤 일이나 자리 따위에 후보로 고려되는 것을 'in the frame'이라고 한다.

콜린스 사전은 'in the frame'을 이렇게 정의했다. "If someone is in the frame for something such as a job or position, they are being considered for it(누군가가 일자리나 직위 같은 것에 대해 in the frame 한다면, 그들은 그것의 고려 대상인 것이다)."

"We need a win to keep us in the frame for the title(우리가 그 타이틀을 딸 만한 후보로 남으려면 이번에 이겨야 해)."

맥밀란 사전은 'in the frame'을 "involved in something, or being considered for something(무엇과 연관되거나, 무엇을 위해 고려되는 중인)"이라고 설명했다.

"He is back in the frame for the Norway game on Friday(그는 금요일에 있는 노르웨이에서 벌어지는 경기에 다시 후보로 거론되고 있다)."

메리암웹스터 사전은 'in the frame'을 "in the position of being considered for something(무엇을 위해 고려되는 위치에 있는)"이라고 풀이했다.
