[영어 공부] in the clear(위험을 벗어난)

 

위험한 상황에 있다가 거기를 벗어났을 때, 즉 안전하고 무사하게 되었을 때 '(be) in the clear'라는 표현을 쓸 수 있다.

케임브릿지 사전은 'in the clear'를 "to have no problems after being in a difficult situation(어려운 상황에 있었다가 아무런 문제가 없게 되다)"이라고 정의했다.

"The X-rays showed that she's in the clear(엑스레이를 찍어 본 결과 그녀는 무사했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'in the clear'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If someone is in the clear, they are not in danger, or are not blamed or suspected of anything(누군가 be in the clear 하다면, 위험한 상황에 처하지 않았거나 무엇으로 비난받거나 의심받지 않는 것이다)."

"The Audit Commission said that the ministry was in the clear(감사원은 그 부처가 안전하다고 했다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'in the clear'를 "no longer in a difficult or dangerous situation(더 이상 어렵거나 위험한 상황에 있지 않는)"이라고 풀이했다.

"Further tests showed that Sarah was in the clear(이후의 검사 결과 사라는 괜찮았던 것으로 밝혀졌다)."
