[영어 공부] lavish(풍성한, 호화로운)

 

'lavish'는 '풍성한, 호화로운'이라는 뜻인데 안타깝게도 나는 살면서 이 단어를 사용해 본 적이 별로 없다... 이 단어가 잘 안 쓰이는 단어여서 그런 게 아니고, 내 삶의 경험에 그런 걸 묘사할 일이 별로 없어서...쥬륵...ㅠㅠ

케임브릿지 사전은 'lavish'를 "large in quantity and expensive or impressive(양이 많고 비싸거나 인상적인)"라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'lavish'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe something as lavish, you mean that it is very elaborate and impressive and a lot of money has been spent on it(어떤 것을 lavish라고 표현한다면, 그것이 아주 정교하며 인상적이고, 큰돈이 들었다는 뜻이다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'lavish'를 이렇게 풀이했다. "something that is lavish exists, is spent, or is given in a very large amount, especially if it costs a lot of money(lavish한 것은 특히, 큰돈이 드는데 아주 많은 양이 있거나, 아주 많은 양이 쓰이거나, 아주 많은 양이 주어진 것이다)"
