케임브릿지 사전은 'try your hand at sth'을 "to try doing something for the first time(어떤 것을 처음으로 시도해 보다)"이라고 정의했다.

"He decided to try his hand at knitting and discovered he was good at it(그는 뜨개질을 시도해 보기로 했고, 뜨개질을 잘한다는 걸 알게 되었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'try your hand'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you try your hand at an activity, you attempt to do it, usually for the first time(어떤 행위에 try your hand 한다면, 대개 처음으로 그것을 싣고해 보는 것이다)."

"After he left school, he tried his hand at a variety of jobs(학교를 떠난 후 그는 다양한 일을 시도해 보았다)."
