케임브릿지 사전은 'hot take'를 "a piece of writing or speech, especially on the internet, giving someone's personal opinions about a topic, usually strong opinions that have not been carefully thought about and that many people are likely to disagree with(어떤 주제에 대해 자신의 개인적 의견을 드러내는, 주의깊게 생각하지 않고 많은 이들이 동의하지 않을 만하고 대체로 강경한 의견인 특히 인터넷상의 글 또는 발언)"라고 정의했다.

"He wants to give us his hot take on how feminism has gone too far(그는 페미니즘이 어떻게 너무 멀리 갔는지에 대한 자신의 생각을 밝히고 싶어 한다)."

콜린스 사전은 'hot take'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A hot take is a piece of journalism or other writing in which someone gives their opinion very forcefully, but does not give any evidence for that opinion(hot take는 개인이 자신의 의견을 아주 강력하게 주장하지만 그 의견에 대한 증거는 전혀 제시하지 않는, 저널리즘이나 기타 다른 글이다)." 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.

"A series of irked reviewers took to the keyboards to express in a series of hot takes just how upset they were(짜증이 난 논평가들이 얼마나 화가 났는지 표현하기 위해 일련의 논평을 쓰기 위해 키보드로 달려갔다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'hot take'를 "a piece of commentary on a recent news event whose main aim is to attract attention, rather than to put forward a considered point of view or argument(주 목적이 사려 깊은 관점이나 논거를 제시하기보다는 관심을 끌기 위한 것인, 최근 뉴스 사건에 대한 논평)"라고 풀이했다.

"The hot take owes much of its widespread popularity to the rise of social media and an Internet-savvy news media(그 객관적이니 못한 논평은 소셜 미디어와 인터넷에 빠삭한 뉴스 미디어 덕분에 널리 인기를 얻었다)."
