케임브릿지 사전은 'all bets are off'를 "used to say that if a particular event happens, then your current forecast, agreement, etc. will no longer apply(특정한 사건이 일어나면, 현재 당신이 가진 예측이나 합의 등은 더 이상 적용되지 않는다고 말할 때 쓰이는 말)"라고 정의했다.

"We expect shares to rise unless the economy slows down again, in which case all bets are off(우리는 경제가 다시 둔화되지 않는 한 주식이 올라가리라고 기대합니다. 만약 경제가 둔화된다면 아무것도 예상할 수 없겠죠.)."

메리암웹스터 사전은 'all bets are off'를 "used to describe a situation in which it is impossible to be sure about what will happen(무슨 일이 일어날지 확신하기 불가능한 상황을 묘사하기 위해 쓰이는 말)"이라고 설명했다.

"All bets are off on the election: it's too close to call(선거는 예측할 수 없다. 예상하기 어려울 정도로 근접한 상황이다)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'all bets are off'를 "used when the outcome of a situation is too uncertain to predict(어떤 상황의 결과가 예상하기 너무나 불확실할 때 하는 말)"라고 풀이했다.
