케임브릿지 사전은 'turn the corner'를 이렇게 정의했다. "If a situation turns the corner, it starts to improve after a difficult period(상황이 turn the corner 한다면, 어려운 기간을 지나 나아지기 시작하는 것이다)."

"After nine months of poor sales we've finally turned the corner(세일즈가 형편없던 9개월이 지난 후, 우리는 드디어 고비를 넘겼다)."

콜린스 사전은 'turn the corner'를 "to pass the critical point (in an illness, etc)((병 등에서) 중요한 시점을 넘다)"라고 설명했다.

맥밀란 사전은 'turn the/a corner'를 "to begin to be healthy, happy, or successful again after a difficult period(어려운 시기를 지난 후 다시 건강하거나 행복하게, 또는 성공적이 되다) 

"Has the economy finally turned the corner?(경제가 드디어 고비를 넘긴 것일까?)" 

"With this new job I feel I’m turning a corner(이 새로운 일로 나는 고비를 넘기고 있다는 느낌이다)."
