케임브릿지 사전은 'get a rise out of'를 "to annoy someone(누군가를 짜증 나게 하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Steve always manages to get a rise out of me with his racist jokes(스티브는 언제나 그의 인종 차별주의적 농담으로 나를 짜증 나게 만든다)."

콜린스 사전은 'get a rise out of'를 "to provoke an angry or petulant reaction from(~에게 화가 나거나 심통 사나운 반응을 유발하다)"이라고 설명했다.

맥밀란 사전은 'get a rise out of someone'을 "to make someone react angrily by saying something that will annoy them(상대를 짜증 나게 하는 말을 해서 상대가 화난 반응을 하게 만들다)"이라고 풀이했다.
