케임브릿지 사전은 'have sth in hand'를 "to have something well organized or under control(어떤 것을 잘 정리하거나 통제하고 있다)"이라고 정의했다.

"The police have the situation in hand(경찰은 그 상황을 잘 통제하고 있다)."

"How come there's a problem? I thought you had everything in hand(어떻게 문제가 생겼다는 거야? 네가 잘 해내고 있는 줄 알았는데)."

콜린스 사전은 'in hand'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If a situation is in hand, it is under control(어떤 상황이 in hand 하다면, 통제되고 있는 것이다)." 

"The event organisers say that matters are well in hand(행사 주최자들은 문제를 잘 처리하고 있다고 한다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'in hand'를 이렇게 풀이했다. "if you have something in hand, you are managing it well so that it happens in the way that it should(어떤 것을 in hand 한다면, 당신이 그것을 잘 관리해서 일이 일어나야 하는 대로 일어나는 것이다)." 

"At half time, they had the match well in hand(중간 휴식 시간에 그들은 경기를 잘 해내고 있었다)."
