[영어 공부] headstrong(고집불통인, 고집이 센)

 

남들이 열심히, 진심으로 조언을 해 줘도 귓등으로 안 듣는 💩고집쟁이들이 있다.

그런 사람들은 'headstrong'이라는 형용사로 묘사할 수 있다. '고집불통인, 고집이 센'이라는 뜻이다.

케임브릿지 사전은 'headstrong'을 "very determined to do what you want without listening to others(다른 이들의 말을 듣지 않고 자신이 원하는 것을 하려고 단단히 마음 먹은)"라고 정의했다.

"She was a headstrong child, always getting into trouble(그녀는 늘 사고를 치는, 고집 센 아이였다)." 

콜린스 사전은 'headstring'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you refer to someone as headstrong, you are slightly critical of the fact that they are determined to do what they want(누군가를 headstrong하다고 표현한다면, 그들이 자신이 원하는 것을 하려고 단단히 마음 먹었다는 사실을 약간 비판적으로 보는 것이다)."

"He's young, very headstrong, but he's a good man underneath(그는 어리고 고집이 무척 세지만, 그 내면은 좋은 사람이다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'headstrong'을 "determined to do what you want even if other people warn you not to do it(다른 사람들이 하지 말라고 경고해도 자신이 원하는 것을 하려고 굳게 마음 먹은)"이라고 풀이했다.
