이 표현은 양인들의 주접 정도로 생각하면 될 것 같다. '뛸 듯이 기쁜' 정도가 아니라 아주 뛰어서 달 너머까지 갔다니, 오버가 좀 심하긴 하지만.

케임브릿지 사전은 'be over the moon'을 "to be very pleased(아주 기뻐하다)"라고 정의했다

"She was over the moon about/with her new bike(그녀는 새 자전거가 생겨서 무척 기뻐했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'over the moon'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that you are over the moon, you mean that you are very pleased about something(over the moon 하다면, 어떤 것에 대해 아주 기뻐하는 것이다)." 영국식(British)이고, 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.

"I'm over the moon about the way this album turned out(저는 이 앨범의 결과에 무척 만족합니다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'be over the moon'을 "to be very happy about something(어떤 것에 대해 아주 행복해하다)"이라고 풀이했다.

"Keith was over the moon about becoming a father(키이스는 아버지가 된다는 사실에 무척 행복해했다)."
