[영어 공부] crunch time(고도의 긴장이 요구되는 때)

 

'크런치 타임'? 크런치를 해야 하는 시간이 아니고(말만 들어도 복근이 당기는 느낌...) '고도의 긴장이 요구되는 때'라는 뜻이다.

케임브릿지 사전은 'crunch time'을 "a point at which something difficult must be done(어려운 일을 해야만 하는 시기)"이라고 정의했다.

"He plays well without pressure, but can he produce at crunch time?(그는 압박감 없이 잘해내지만, 결정적 순간에 어떤 결과를 낼 수 있을까?)"

콜린스 사전은 'crunch time'을 "the critical moment(중요한 순간)"이라고 설명했다.

"It's crunch time for everyone in the England squad(이는 잉글랜드 팀의 모든 이들에게 결정적 순간이다)."

메리암웹스터 사전은 'crunch time'을 "a critical moment or period (as near the end of a game) when decisive action is needed((경기의 후반에) 결정적 행동이 필요한 중요한 순간 또는 시기)"라고 풀이했다.
