보통 가스 레인지는 화구가 앞줄에 두 개, 뒷줄에 두 개, 총 네 개 있다.

대개 앞줄 화구는 화력이 세고 뒷줄 화구는 화력이 상대적으로 약한데, 그래서 별로 급하지 않거나 중요하지 않은 일을 나중에 처리하기로 하다, 잠시 제쳐 둔다는 말을 영어로 'put something on the back burner'라고 한다.

케임브릿지 사전은 'on the back burner'를 이렇게 정의했다. "If something is on the back burner, it is temporarily not being dealt with or considered, especially because it is not urgent or important(어떤 것이 on the back burner 하다면, 특히 그것이 급하거나 중요하지 않기 때문에 일시적으로 처리되지 않거나 고려되지 않는 것이다)."

"We've all had to put our plans on the back burner for a while(우리는 잠시 계획을 제쳐 두어야 했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'on the back burner'를 "If you put an issue on the back burner, you leave it in order to deal with it later because you now consider it to have become less urgent or important(어떤 이슈를 on the back burner에 놓는다면, 그것이 덜 급하거나 덜 중요하게 되었다고 여기기 때문에 나중에 처리하려고 놔두는 것이다)."
